I was wrong about digital fashion and this is why

Here's my honest thoughts for you

Hi Fun Gs,

This month on Patreon, I’m diving into something big: the current state of digital fashion. If you’ve been following the rise of digital fashion, you know there’s been a lot of excitement—but also a lot of uncertainty.

Digital fashion is within metaverse, digital human and nfts.

In this exclusive video, I get real and honest about what’s happening in the industry right now. I’ll talk about:
✨ What’s working—and what’s not
✨ Why digital fashion isn’t the silver bullet we thought it was
✨ The challenges of where and how digital fashion is being used, bought, and sold
✨ Where the industry might be headed next

We’ve all heard the hype, but this is about cutting through the noise and getting to the truth. I think it’s important for designers, creators, and enthusiasts like you to understand the real opportunities and challenges in this evolving space.

Like most people in industry, I got caught up in the idea that digital fashion could solve a lot of problems in the physical fashion industry and that we were all going to have access to wearable tech and live in metaverse utopia. And while it’s clear that’s not entirely true, there’s still so much potential for where it can go and how it can evolve.

And as much as I love this space, we’ve faced some challenges—and I think it’s important to talk about them. Here are three areas where digital fashion has hit some bumps:

1. We Overestimated the Demand

Let’s be honest—we thought everyone would be rocking digital wardrobes by now, right? But the reality is, most people still aren’t sure how digital fashion fits into their daily lives. While gamers and early adopters have embraced it, making digital fashion relatable for the average consumer is still a work in progress.

2. Platforms Aren’t Talking to Each Other

Wouldn’t it be great if you could buy a digital jacket and use it seamlessly across games, the metaverse, and social media? Unfortunately, that dream hasn’t come true yet. The lack of a unified system has made digital fashion feel more fragmented than it should be—and that’s holding back its full potential.

3. The NFT Rollercoaster

Remember when NFTs were the hottest thing ever? Yeah, that hype didn’t last. While they offered a cool way to monetize and authenticate digital fashion, the speculative frenzy hurt the industry. Many projects fizzled out, leaving people skeptical and hesitant to invest.

But here’s the good news: these challenges aren’t the end of the story. They’re opportunities for growth, innovation, and finding better ways to bring digital fashion into our lives. I still believe in the potential of this space, and I know we’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible.

What do you think? Have you seen any standout solutions or ideas in digital fashion recently? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
