Why Branding & Community Building as a Creative is Important
It's something we're not really taught
Hi Digi-Fashion Enthusiasts!
This is a question I was recently asked by one of my good friends and it is a topic I think that will be super helpful for you too.
Building a community and branding yourself as a creative is super important, especially for those who want to build their own brand or become a freelancer. As creatives, we have amazing creative skills but are not taught social or marketing skills.
Here’s my top 3 advice for building your brand and community:
Know what your values are as a brand. Write down on a piece of paper 3 words that describe your brand and stick with it. If you find it hard - ask your friends to describe you and your craft and choose from what they say.
Make sure to turn up for your community. Having a place where you consistently show up with be the place you can grow your community, whether that is on IG, twitch or discord. Pick one place and keep posting about your craft. In my opinion, social media is one of the best ways to get visibility so let that algorithm help you find your people with common interests.
Don’t be scared to showcase your processes and journey. Storytelling is so key for gaining peoples’ interest. People like to feel a part of the journey - so posting your mistakes and learnings or even how you created your pieces will help your community get to know you better.
